Old Saybrook Education Foundation Purpose:

 

In 1996 the Old Saybrook Education Foundation was created to support the educational programs of the Old Saybrook School District.  The Foundation provides funds beyond the normal operating budget for educational programs and activities for students and staff.  Foundation funds are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development, recognize and encourage staff excellence and expand community involvement from individual, businesses and civic organizations.  The Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt (501(c) #06-1486846 of the IRS Tax Code) public corporation operating independently under a board of directors serving without compensation.

In its ten years of existence, the Foundation has provided over $100,000 to educational enrichment programs and students.  Included are many scholarships which helped begin college careers, equipment for program technology improvements, the high school greenhouse, School-to-Career program, Lead the Way program, and youth leadership conferences, financial hardship grants to insure that all students in a class could attend major education trips , Goodwin Buddies program, the startup of Boy's Lacrosse, WISE projects, Quiz Bowl Team, Middle School Lego Team, Destination Imagination, Walk to Cure Cancer, summer student courses and programs in specialized subjects at major universities, and many other grants to meet special student needs.
